If you don't want to spend too much time running a capture application and looking for the saved images or recordings, then you might want to have a look at CleanShot. This little application cuts every imaginable corner to let you capture the screen as quickly and effortlessly as possible. You just click, target and there's your screenshot.

CleanShot is compatible with all popular Windows versions and you can have it up and running in just a few seconds. It doesn't use a significant amount of resources, but it requires a special tool for recording. Fortunately, the application can find, download and install that tool for you.

The application comes with a tiny, minimalistic user interface. It presents two options, for recording and taking a snapshot and a button for executing the selected action. Once you select an action and click the button, you must specify a capture area, by clicking and dragging and right click to confirm. This will immediately take a snapshot of the designated area or start recording.

There is not much you have to do if you decide to record the screen. Once you hit the Stop button, CleanShot will immediately save the recording in a default folder, in WMV format. Snapshots appear on a new window immediately after selecting and confirming a capture area. With the screenshot in front of you, you can decide to upload the image and generate a download link, save the image in a local folder or copy it to the clipboard. There is also an option for using the image to create a meme.
